Windows: your browser and Windows each show a one-time warning because the installer is not code-signed yet; the walkthrough with pictures is right below. Mac: Apple Silicon, macOS 14.2 or later. Signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.
Two warnings will appear. Here is exactly what to click.
Both come from the same fact: SideSense is a new app that is not yet code-signed and has not built up download reputation with Microsoft. Neither is the result of a scan and neither is a malware detection; they simply mean the installer has not been seen enough times to be recognized. Every new indie app goes through this phase, and right now that includes us. (On Mac there is nothing to click through: the Mac app is notarized by Apple.)
First, your browser: keep the file.
Edge and Chrome flag installers they have not seen many times before, right in the downloads panel. Tell the browser you want the file:
SideSense Pro-Setup.exe isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust SideSense Pro-Setup.exe before you open it.

Then, the blue “Windows protected your PC” screen.
When you run the installer, Microsoft SmartScreen shows its blue interstitial. Two clicks get you through:

We would rather explain this honestly than pretend it isn't there. If you want to double-check the file first, scan it with Windows Defender or upload it to VirusTotal; we encourage it. Once installed, updates apply inside the app and you will not see either warning again. When SideSense ships code-signed builds, this section goes away.

Keep the file, then run it
If your browser flags the download, choose Keep. On the blue screen, click More info, then Run anyway, exactly as shown above.
Install and sign in
The installer runs without admin rights and finishes in about a minute. Sign in, and your free tier is ready. Updates arrive automatically inside the app from then on.

Open the DMG
The Mac button serves the current SideSense Pro .dmg for Apple Silicon. Open it from your Downloads folder.
Drag it into Applications
Drag SideSense Pro onto the Applications folder, then open it from there. It is notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it like any other app.
Sign in and allow audio
Sign in, and your free tier is ready. The first time you start a session, macOS asks for microphone and system audio access: choose Allow. Updates arrive automatically inside the app.

Is the blue SmartScreen warning on Windows a virus alert?
No. SmartScreen did not scan the file and find something bad. It is a reputation check: Windows keeps a list of apps it has seen signed and downloaded many times, and anything outside that list gets the warning. A brand-new app from a small team starts with zero reputation, so the screen appears. Your antivirus still scans the installer as normal, and you are free to scan it yourself with Windows Defender or VirusTotal before running it.
Why isn't the Windows installer code-signed yet?
Certificates that remove the warning cost several hundred dollars a year and require an established company identity check. We are a small team shipping early, and we chose to spend that time and money on the product first. When SideSense buys a certificate, the warning goes away and this section disappears from the page. The Mac app is already signed and notarized by Apple, so Mac users never see a warning.
Who actually builds SideSense?
SideSense is built by the team behind KGP Talkie, the machine learning education channel run by Laxmi Kant Tiwari. The channel has taught Python, data science, and ML to hundreds of thousands of students on YouTube for years, under the same public name. You can verify the maker before you run anything: the YouTube channel, kgptalkie.com, and the About page on this site all point at the same real person.
Will I see the warning again after installing?
No. The warning belongs to the downloaded installer, not the app. Once installed, SideSense updates itself in-app, so you will not go through SmartScreen again for updates.
Does the installer need admin rights?
No. On Windows it installs per-user, without administrator rights, and finishes in about a minute. On Mac you drag the app into Applications. Your audio, transcripts, and local models stay on your computer.
Does it run on an Intel Mac?
No. The Mac app needs Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 14.2 or later. Local transcription and local AI models depend on Apple Silicon to run at live speed, and we would rather say so up front than ship a slow experience.
Why does my Mac ask for microphone and system audio access?
SideSense transcribes both sides of a call: your microphone for your voice, and system audio for the other side. macOS asks for each the first time you start a session or an audio test. Audio is captured only while a session or test you started is running, it is transcribed on your Mac, and it is never uploaded. No extra audio driver is needed. You can change either permission any time in System Settings, Privacy & Security.
